Project Description: Case Study/Manta Ray Villa – 3D Printed Concrete Villa in Costa Rica Design by Marketa Gebrian in collaboration with Coral Construction Technologies/Coral 3DCP (https://www.coral3dcp.com/) This project of the Manta Ray Villa is a sustainable 3D printed concrete structure nestled in the tropical landscape of Costa Rica, Dominical area. Conceived by architect Markéta Gebrian and developed in partnership with Coral Construction Technologies/Coral 3DCP, the project embodies the intersection of organic form, cutting-edge construction technology, and environmental sensitivity. The house features a sculptural, loop-like shape that blends harmoniously with the surrounding jungle. Its fluid curves and biomorphic geometry were inspired by nature’s own structures—manta rays—reflecting a respect for the environment. This organic design language was realized using advanced 3D printing technology with concrete, offering both structural efficiency and reduced construction waste. The renders also illustrate the house's passive cooling strategies, open-air circulation, and minimal environmental footprint—making it an exemplary model of future-forward, eco-conscious architecture. The Manta Ray Villa stands as a testament to what is possible when design innovation meets sustainable technology. Post-Human Formmaking explores how artificial intelligence can support the transformation of digital sculptural ideas into structurally feasible, buildable architecture, while maintaining clear human authorship and responsibility throughout the design process. The project investigates a collaborative workflow in which AI operates as a creative and analytical instrument, and architectural expertise guides the final, constructible outcome.
