AFTER THE SHIPYARDS
AFTER THE SHIPYARDS A Speculative Future for Belfast AFTER THE SHIPYARDS is a site-specific AI-generated moving-image project that reimagines Belfast through speculative architecture and cinematic transformation. The project is inspired by Belfast’s industrial heritage, the River Lagan, the Titanic Quarter, and the monumental presence of the Harland & Wolff shipyards. These familiar elements become the starting point for an alternative vision of the city, where steel structures evolve into luminous ecosystems, former industrial zones transform into cultural landscapes, and architecture begins to merge with nature and technology. Rather than reconstructing the past, the project asks how a city can carry its memory into the future. Using generative artificial intelligence, I create cinematic urban environments in which Belfast becomes a living and continuously evolving organism. Industrial geometry dissolves into organic forms, infrastructure becomes landscape, and the river functions as a connective ecological system running through the city. The work does not attempt to predict what Belfast will look like. Instead, it explores how collective imagination can reshape our understanding of urban transformation. AFTER THE SHIPYARDS reflects on the relationship between memory, architecture, technological change, and cultural renewal. It presents a future in which Belfast’s industrial identity is not erased, but reinterpreted through new forms of public space, ecological architecture, and digital imagination. The project is conceived as an AI-generated moving-image installation for large-scale projection. Through slow cinematic sequences and evolving architectural environments, viewers are invited to experience Belfast as a city suspended between its industrial past and a speculative post-industrial future.
